West Port Mixed Development, Dundee: Casino, Retail, Offices and Services Apartments

As the final stage to the West Marketgait Masterplan, the West Port development not only provides commercial, leisure and special serviced apartment accommodation within Dundee City Centre but also seeks to embody the spirit of Dundee City Council’s Cultural & Commercial Quarter policy and simultaneously create a physical and visual environment commensurate with the quality and scale expected of an urban centre.

Designed with a building footprint of over 2075m², the West Port accommodates a Bar/Café, various sized retail and office units at ground floor level, a two-storey casino at first floor level, high quality office accommodation at third floor level and 25 unique modern and spacious serviced apartment designed to take advantage of the spectacular view from the fourth and fifth floor levels.

The top two floors at the sixth and seventh levels are dominated by a high quality spectacular circular two-storey penthouse with private terrace that give 360 degree panoramic views over the city centre, River Tay estuary and surrounding areas. Generally, the scale of the proposed design rises through three stories on the west and north elevations, five stories on the south and east elevations and seven stories in the south eastern corner. The considered variation in storey height is a direct response to the surrounding environment and intended relationship with existing adjacent buildings.

The works at the West Port was completed in October 2009 on time and on budget with a contract sum of £14 million procured using a traditional two stage contract.
